So the effect of Reiki on the general population feels as though it has different levels and it also demonstrates to me this …kind of ‘universal law’: that things are nested in within one another. So it’s like the individual is the center, and then the family, and then the city or township or the community and the world. And it’s like we see our practice fanning out, but also having profound effects coming back in. So one of the things that I used to say: in the beginning when people would say «well, you know, we need world peace».. this was in 1980s, and being a dyed-in the wool hippie, you know, everybody was talking about world peace, and I said «well the best thing you can do is to give yourself a treatment every day, because if you change your attitude in the way you are with people and that changes the way your family’s attitude is with their families and so on, then this is the grass‘ roots, that’s where peace really begins. And I’ve become much more… convinced that this is really one of the root powers of Reiki, the change of Reiki.

And at the same time, now that people are really getting global…globalization… (0747) a really scary word because… (laugh)… yah, there is a little bit of history that I have to say about globalization, but…
8:01
But the globalization, just the effect of having Reiki students all over the world, in every country, from every language and so on…

This brings a whole other understanding of who we are as beings and our… our… and the group of us as human beings, humanity becomes alive, not just some word that we say. So in my webinars, that I’m starting to do, you know the chat comes up and (0838) (cough)
8:42
As people are signing in, Rachel asked them to chat where they, you know, signing in from, and it’s like you know Boston/Massachusetts, it’s DenHag in the Netherlands, it’s Almaty/Kazakhstan, you know and Russia and America and everywhere. And it’s so cool! It’s this wonderful thing and this is making difference on the webinar. It isn’t just me speaking to people all over the world, I’m kind of used to that, but it’s the world realizing they’re listening together. And that is very profound I believe.

But a high percentage, like I would say 85, maybe even higher percentage of those first 50 or 60 masters are still practicing, if they are alive, which is amazing. And then there came a time in the 1990ies where Reiki became sort of a fad and I think that we.. I didn’t have enough… wisdom, perhaps, to understand that I had been riding on my grandmother’s energy in the beginning, then somehow by the mid 80ies.. the end of the 80ies and into the 1990ies it was my energy that was holding these masters, but it wasn’t big enough. So in the mid 1990ies when this explosion of all these different kinds of Reiki practices came about, for me this thing I called «the golden age of Reiki» stopped where everybody had, you know, a waiting list for their 1st degree classes and there was all kinds of stuff and we were traveling around and doing teaching but we weren’t treatments, that was the thing.
4:04
And my grandmother always thought and it was always clear for me, that her classes came out of her treatment practice. So… when people started to lose their numbers in their classes, started to travel less, they went back to their homes, they opened a Reiki practice and they began to truly be masters as far as I’m concerned, well rounded masters. They had a treatment practice, they taught and they could take care of themselves. And this for me, Reiki did for us, because (laugh) otherwise I don’t know where we would be today. But for the people who couldn’t survive, like couldn’t earn a living then, instead of going deeper they just said «Well, it’s no longer a viable job, so I quit». And I thought «How can you quit being a Reiki master?» And so, I just was stunned.

…obviously anatomy and physiology, some courses on disease recog…. disease and condition recognition according to allopathic medicine. And in Germany, which is the first program that I tried to organize to accompany the Heilpraktiker-Programm there, I really loved it that a lot of the Heilpraktiker-Progamm were… was devoted to practitioners’ learning characteristics of a certain disease so that they wouldn’t treat it. I thought this was wonderful, very German and very brilliant actually. Because on the other hand Heilpraktikers and Reiki practitioners weren’t given the authority to diagnose, only the allopathic can diagnose. And this was great because it just gave people this understanding in kind of a backward way, I like that actually a lot.

And psychological training, lots of hours of hands on treatment, not only given but received. For me, what I would want the practitioner to have is at least an equal number of hours of treatments given and received, both. Because I feel like as a practitioner, if you haven’t experienced the receiving of Reiki treatments and you haven’t paid for those treatments, there’s no way that you can ask or be confident about asking other people to pay for Reiki treatments and, you know, coming to you.
